The Bengals and wide receivers Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins have reportedly agreed to terms on a contract extension for each.

Ja'Marr Chase #1 of the Cincinnati Bengals high-fives Tee Higgins #5 after a touchdown in the first quarter of a game against the Pittsburgh Steelers at Acrisure Stadium on January 04, 2025 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

CINCINNATI - The Bengals and wide receivers Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins have reportedly agreed to terms on a contract extension for each. That makes Chase the highest-paid non-quarterback in the NFL at an average annual value of $40.25 million per year. The Cleveland Browns had made defensive end Myles Garrett the highest-paid non-quarterback in the NFL early last week with an average $40 million per year. Chase had hoped to sign an extension last offseason and made it clear he wanted to be paid more than Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson, who signed a four-year, $140 million contract extension last offseason. That made Jefferson the highest-paid non-quarterback in the NFL at the time. Bengals director of player personnel Duke Tobin said at the NFL Scouting Combine on Feb. 25 that the team was willing to make Chase the highest-paid non-quarterback. Chase was under contract for the 2025 season after the fifth-year option from his initial four-year rookie contract was picked up last year.Chase was selected fifth overall by the Bengals in 2021 and exceeded 1,000 yards receiving in each of his first four seasons. This past season he became just the fifth receiver since the AFL-NFL merger in 1970 to win the receiving "Triple Crown," as he led the league in receptions , receiving yards and touchdown catches . In 62 regular-season games he has played, he has 395 receptions for 5,425 yards and 46 touchdowns. He was selected Associated Press Rookie of the Year in 2021 and was named to the AFC Pro Bowl team in each of his first three seasons. The Bengals placed the franchise tag on him on March 3, the day before the deadline to do so, and had until July 15 to negotiate an extension. Tobin said on Feb. 25 at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis that the team wanted to sign Higgins to a long-term contract. "Our preference is a long-term deal and that's what our focus is right now," said Tobin. "I think Tee Higgins is a fantastic football player and I want him on my football team. Whenever I'm in charge of a football team, I want Tee Higgins, so I'm going to do what I can to get Tee Higgins. Our preference with Tee Higgins is to do a long-term agreement. Always has been. It continues to be, and we'll work hard to get that done."
