Coach Q is battling multiple light chain myeloma, a rare blood cancer, and requires extended medical treatment. Hollis lost his 17-year-old daughter to leukemia the same day he began cancer treatment.
Players and fellow coaches he inspired said they had to come together at the thing they do best to recognize him.Beaufort, who is also a coach, said he wanted Coach Q to know he is is important. “We need people like inside the community,” Beaufort said. Proceeds from the game will help support Hollis in his fight against cancer and alleviate the financial burden the sickness brings. Organizers said it’s a small thing they can do. “We are just doing our part,” Beaufort shared. “We're a basketball company inside the community and we're just doing our part as being a small sample size to the support system that he already has.
