Carlos Beltran's bid for the Baseball Hall of Fame fell short once more, leaving him tantalizingly close to joining the ranks of the greats but still facing the lingering controversy of his role in the 2017 Astros sign-stealing scandal.

Carlos Beltran 's dream of entering the Baseball Hall of Fame will have to wait at least another year. Despite a strong showing in the 2025 Hall of Fame voting, Beltran fell just short of the required 75% threshold, receiving 70.3% of the vote (277 out of 294 votes) from the Baseball Writers Association of America. This marked the third consecutive year Beltran appeared on the ballot, inching closer to immortality in Cooperstown . He previously garnered 57.1% in 2024 and 46.5% in 2023.

Beltran's impressive 20-year MLB career saw him play for several prominent teams, including the Mets, Royals, Yankees, Cardinals, Astros, Rangers, and Giants. He finished his career with 435 home runs and 1,587 RBIs, boasting a .279 batting average. His time with the Mets was particularly memorable, where he spent seven seasons and helped the team reach the NLCS in 2006. That year, he excelled, hitting a career-high 41 home runs with 115 RBIs and scoring 127 runs during the regular season. His involvement in the Astros sign-stealing scandal, however, continues to cast a shadow over his candidacy. While he was not a starting player during the 2017 scandal, his role as a member of the team ultimately cost him the Mets managerial job in 2020. Former Mets manager Terry Collins believes Beltran is unfairly penalized for his involvement and deserves to be enshrined in the Hall of Fame. 'This Astros thing has gotten out of control now. The Hall of Fame is filled with guys who knew what pitches were coming at certain times, so I’m a little tired of hearing him being held accountable,” Collins stated. “He wasn’t even a starting player. It’s not like he benefited from what was going on. I think he’s being overly penalized. He lost the managerial job because of this. He’s paid his price. He’s a Hall of Fame player and he needs to be in the Hall of Fame.
