Ina Garten, the beloved Food Network host known for her idyllic Hamptons lifestyle and denim shirts, has come out in support of Trader Joe’s — the ultimate recommendation from the queen of “store bought is fine.” Specifically, she adores the French Apple Tart dessert, which only hits shelves during the holiday season.
On a recent segment about holiday cooking for the “Today” show, Garten shared her secret to the world: She loves Trader Joe’s frozen apple tart, according toIt certainly sounds delicious — Trader Joe’s takes a combination of sweet Northern Spy apples and tart Granny Smith apples and lays the sliced beauties across a bed of shortbread crust. An apricot glaze with a hint of vanilla tops if off for a little extra sweetness.
According to the Trader Joe’s website, the master pastry chef that developed this recipe once served it to the president of France, who reportedly loved it. Garten was once a federal employee, but left her job to run a food store called Barefoot Contessa, later selling the store and publishing a cookbook based off recipes she developed while running Barefoot Contessa. The TV host and personality has become something of a cultural icon over the past 20 years for her adoration of her husband Jeffrey and her embrace of “store-bought” goods.
