The number of Filipinos who died following a food factory fire in Taiwan has increased to four, Manila Economic and Cultural Office (MECO) head Silvestre Bello III said Friday.
“OFW Maricris Fernando from La Union succumbed to severe carbon monoxide poisoning,” Bello told GMA News Online in a text message.
He earlier said Fernando was in the intensive care unit and had to undergo dialysis because her urine discharge was very minimal. The other OFWs who died were Renato Larua of Cavite; Nancy Revilla of Marinduque, and Aroma Miranda of Tarlac. Bello said the authorities have assured aid to the kin of the OFWs who died, and are working for their immediate repatriation.“The repatriation depends on the result of the embalment of the bodies and compliance with the legal documents,” Bello added.
Other OFWs who were injured in the Lian-Hwa Foods Corporation food fire in Changhua county, central part of Taiwan last Tuesday include Sheila May Abas, Jessie Boy Samson, Rodel Uttao, and Santiago Suba Jr. They are now in stable condition.
