A Belfast man with a history of violence against women was jailed for nine months today for assaulting his pregnant partner. where he was handed an 18-month sentence divided equally between jail and licence.
He then pushed the woman several times which caused her head to bang off a wall. A neighbour intervened, police were called and the woman was taken to hospital and treated for tenderness to her head. Describing the relationship as "volatile", Mr Shields said it was accepted Montgomery had a "chequered background" and addiction issues which he was now trying to address.
Imposing the sentence, Judge Miller said he hoped Montgomery would "meaningfully address his issues" whilst on Probation.
