Damon Wayan's on 'SNL's "Weekend Update" with Dennis Miller
If you grew up in the 90s like I did, Damon Wayans was one of the biggest names in comedy. He became famous for his run on Fox's sketch comedy show In Living Color before becoming a leading man in feature films like The Last Boy Scout and Blankman, but prior to all of that, he was a cast member on Saturday Night Live. For so many successful comedians, SNL is the starting point that launches them into fame, but for Wayans it was a disaster.
One of the biggest criticisms of SNL is that there are few Black cast members, and those that do get on the show don't have a lot to do. Such was the case with Damon Wayans, who was there to be a side character in sketches not centered around him. In the new Peacock docuseries SNL50: Beyond Saturday Night, Wayans spoke about the advice Eddie Murphy, another former SNL cast member, gave him."Eddie’s advice to me was, ‘Write your own sketches.

He did struggle for a few years, but in 1990 it all paid off with the creation of a new sketch comedy show on Fox called In Living Color. Made up mostly of a Black cast, including Jamie Foxx and David Alan Grier, Wayans became the biggest star due to characters such as Homey D. Clown.
