Derrick Henry has been terrorizing opposing defenses in the NFL for seven season now. To those who knew him from the time he was a star at Yulee High, success and fame haven’t changed him that much.

At Yulee Middle School, he scored most times he touched the ball.His coach at the time, Medley was instructed by the principal to take Henry out of games at halftime because parents were worried he'd hurt their kids. “From what I understand, he wanted to put his hometown on the map,” said Lori Amos, Yulee High’s principal and Henry’s English teacher from 10th through 12th grade. “He had coaches who had worked with him from all the way through high school. He didn’t want to leave them. So he stayed here in his hometown, with the kids that he’d grown up with and played ball with all the way along.
“It’s really cool to have someone on the pedestal that all of our kids know,” Dougherty said. “This guy did it. From here, from this situation, from this town, this community, this school. That weight room is the same weight room Derrick lifted in. There ain’t no changes. We’ve got a few more bars in there. That’s it, you know what I mean?‘I get motivated by anything’
