After getting his Ph.D, McDowell lived for the most part in Medford, Massachusetts while also maintaining a residence in Hollywood, California.McDowell was an extremely talented novelist and screenwriter. His collaborations vary from “Beetlejuice” and “The Nightmare Before Christmas” to writing the novel of the movie “Clue”.
His most known literary work is called the “Blackwater Series”. This is a collection of six books taking place in Perdido, Alabama. The series focuses on a stranger who arrives in a small town with a little more than meets the eye.McDowell was known to collect rather unique items. The collection featured photographs, prints, documents, and more. The majority of the items revolved around death, with one section of photos focusing on, “Dead babies and children “.
