Beechcroft and Columbus East both are 4-0 in the City League-North Division entering their matchup Oct. 13.
Beechcroft is on a five-game winning streak and takes records of 5-2 overall and 4-0 in the league into the showdown with the the Tigers, who are 4-0 in the City-North and 7-0 overall for the first time since 1964, when they finished 9-0.
“They’ve got a lot of skill players,” Simmons said. “Their coach has been doing a good job over there.” In a 38-6 win over Whetstone on Oct. 7, sophomore running back Taizaun Burns rushed for 215 yards and three touchdowns on eight carries and caught a 44-yard touchdown pass. Senior quarterback Wayne Lindsay III was 5-for-9 passing for 115 yards and one touchdown and rushed for 103 yards and one score on six carries.
Since then, the Cougars beat Bexley 21-0 on Sept. 8 and outscored their first four City-North opponents 181-6. Scott, who didn’t play in 2020 while attending Independence, is in his second season starting for Beechcroft.
