Angel City Football Club makes another move, removing coach Becki Tweed. Last week, general manager Angela Hucles Mangano was removed.
Angel City FC head coach Becki Tweed, center, reacts on the sideline during the second half of their NWSL match against the Portland Thorns on Monday night at BMO Stadium. Angel City Football Club’s offseason of change continued Monday with the team announcing that it had “parted ways” with coach Becki Tweed.
Tweed, who was hired as an assistant ahead of the 2023 season, was promoted to interim coach after inaugural coach Freya Coombe was fired midway through the season. Tweed led the team on an 11-game unbeaten streak, eventually qualifying for the NWSL playoffs. After the season, the club removed the interim tag.
“Becki has been an integral part of Angel City FC, demonstrating an exceptional work ethic, a deep care for her staff and players, and an unwavering desire to learn and grow,” Technical Director Mark Wilson said in a statement. “Her commitment to personal and professional development reflects Becki’s dedication to the game and ability to positively influence those around her.
The moves are the first under new owners Willow Bay and Bob Iger, who acquired controlling interest in the club in the summer.
