His wordsmith skills had a daily workout with the newspaper crossword, and any visitors might find themselves coming second in a game of Scrabble which had overtaken his previous favourite Contract Bridge, that he played to county standard. As a competitive player at school and university his other main passion was rugby, and he took up refereeing in his late 20s.
Michael Smith Mick Smith, of Ravenswood, Great Harwood and formerly of Huncoat, passed away unexpectedly but peacefully on Friday, April 28, aged 78 years. Another big passion in his life was shooting and working his Springer Spaniels, he was also an active member of the BASC – British Association for Shooting and Conservation.
