The cinema was nicknamed 'the Ranch'
A beautiful relic that still exists over 80 years on from when the site first opened as a cinema is a window to the past.
But after 23 years, the cinema closed its doors for good in 1960. On April 30 that year, The Liverpool ECHO reported: "The Mayfair was the only cinema in the Huyton town centre and Mr David Latta, manager for 16 years, will be severing his connections with the cinema, which has has lasted since the day it opened.
Amateur historian Jamie Williams told the ECHO in 2019 how he contacted Boots about the importance of the sites history and as a result, contractors had to rethink further work in order to preserve it. In the noughties, Jamie was told he was the first person since 1969 to photograph inside the old cinema and he also took a DVD player up into the original part of the cinema, leaned it against the original screen and watched the The Plainsman, the first film that was ever screened there.
"They told us quote a lot about what the building used to be and I've always wanted to put together an exhibition on the history of the building and a timeline of where we're up to now. It's super interesting and looking at pictures of the building it's a real sort of architectural gem.
