KEPALA BATAS: A 27-year-old woman was conned out of RM100,000 by a man who promised to obtain a money changer business license for her.
Seberang Prai Utara OCPD Asst Comm Noorzainy Mohd Noor said the victim, who worked as a beautician, had planned to venture in the money exchange business and was introduced to the suspect by a friend in January 2017.
"The victim from Kepala Batas had been promised that she can get fast-tracked to obtain the licence from the suspect. "She then agreed to use the suspect's services and was instructed to made a deposit payment of RM100,000 as a processing fee to obtained the licence," he said in a statement.He said although the victim had handed over the cheques, the suspect still asked for additional payment for the services.
"The victim refused to pay more and after several reasons given by the suspects about the licence, the suspect then vanished without the trace," he said. "Police are still investigating the case and looking to obtain more details on the suspect," he said.
