Martha Dougharty Sparks was remembered for her eccentricity in a humorous obituary written by her son.
Martha Sparks passed away on April 2, 2023 at the age of 80 years old. She passed away at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. One of her sons, Mark Sparks, wrote an obituary for her that went viral on social media for being hilarious and creative. )When Clay Bar Funeral Home sent Mark Sparks the template for his mother's obituary, he knew he had to make it interesting.
"She loved laughing and making people laugh, and I thought, well, why not take something that's always so dry and matter of fact, and make it a little bit more fun," Mark said. "Ever the optimist, Martha chose the actually insane over the imaginarily mundane, and married Jimmy," the obituary reads. Mark remembers his mother loving red lipstick and her eclectic hat collection. He said her favorite hat reminded him of James Spader's character in the show"Blacklist," and whenever she would wear it, he would remind her how crazy she was.
