Beatrice Chebet of Kenya broke the world record in the 10,000 meters at the Prefontaine Classic at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon. She ran 28:54.14, taking nearly 6 seconds off the previous record, 29:01.03, set by Letesenbet Gidey of Ethiopia in June 2021. The race was originally billed as a world record attempt for Gudaf Tsegay of Ethiopia, who set the world record in the 5,000 meters last year on the same track.
