BDO Australia has recruited a former PwC-turned-Scyne partner and an ex-Deloitte and Sayers Group partner to lead its new Canberra office.
, has poached two former big four partners to expand into Canberra as it becomes the latest outfit to make a play for Commonwealth advisory work.
“What’s happened is with the disruption in Canberra ...we had a lot of people approach us and say ‘now’s the right time for BDO’,” chief executive partner Tony Schiffmann said.“Because of the quality of the people and the number of people approaching us we decided this was the time for us to do our market entry ... we were always doing a little bit of work in Canberra, but it was more fly-in, fly-out.
The firm is recruiting for more partners and staff. Mr Schiffmann said the growth plans for the Canberra office included adding “more than a dozen to 20 staff” within the first year. Mr McDougall, a risk management and internal audit specialist, began his career in the federal bureaucracy before moving to PwC as a partner in 2005 then to spin-off Scyne last November.PwC had been cut off from winning new government work once the extent of its tax leaks scandal became public
