BBC representatives have met with the Metropolitan Police.
"The BBC takes any allegations seriously and we have robust internal processes in place to proactively deal with such allegations," the broadcaster said in a statement. "This is a complex and fast moving set of circumstances and the BBC is working as quickly as possible to establish the facts in order to properly inform appropriate next steps."
The statement went on to confirm the BBC is co-operating with the police after "new information" emerged on Thursday .Reports of the accusations first began circulating on Saturday , stating a male BBC presenter had allegedly paid more than £35,000 in exchange for explicit photos of a young person., which first reported the allegations, the BBC star initially began paying for explicit images when the young person, who is now 20, was just 17 years old.
The young person's family is said to have first complained to the BBC about the matter on May 19 this year.
