The Bayanihan to Heal As One Act or Bayanihan 1 provided compensation of P1 million to medical workers who died and P100,000 to those hospitalized because of Covid-19.

THE Department of Health is awaiting the passage of the Bayanihan to Recover As One Act or Bayanihan 2 for it to continue compensation of medical frontliners who have died or have been severely infected with the coronavirus disease 2019 .

Before the law lapsed on June 25, the DoH released P30 million, with P1 million each going to the heirs of medical frontliners who died while the kin of each of the 19 health workers who were infected received P100,000.

Palace spokesman Harry Roque Jr. said President Rodrigo Duterte would call for a special session to pass the so-called Bayanihan 2 measure. Vergeire said the DoH was discussing the release of hazard pay to health workers not directly hired by the department but by external agencies. According to Administrative Order 26 issued by the President, national government agencies are authorized to grant an additional Covid-19 hazard pay of P500 per person each day that they are present during the period of enhanced community quarantine.
