Montoya on Thursday: ‘We lost someone that we have so much respect for.’
Bay FC head coach Albertin Montoya, shown in a file photo, addressed the media for the first time on Thursday since general manager Lucy Rushton’s abrupt resignation earlier this week. SAN JOSE — Bay FC head coach Albertin Montoya said general manager Lucy Rushton’s sudden resignation on Monday was a big loss, but the team plans to move forward in a business-as-usual manner for the rest of the season.
Rushton hired Montoya to be head coach in September and helped the 49-year-old put together a staff for his team’s first season in the NWSL. Montoya said he and Potter have been aligned on where the team stands and the direction of the franchise won’t change. Though Bay FC is currently in 11th place in the 14-team league, they are only a point behind eighth-place Louisville, which would hold the last playoff spot if the season ended today.Bay FC has won three of its last five games which included victories over Angel City FC, Chicago Red Stars and San Diego Wave FC.
