Send questions toSanta Teresa softball player Mariah Avalos is the Bay Area News Group’s high school girls athlete of the week for May 22-27 after she received 39.79% of the vote at the 5 p.m. deadline Wednesday.
Live Oak softball player Dre DeJesus placed second and KIPP-San Lorenzo softball player Leilani Garcia was third.Avalos, a junior, was a machine at the plate in Santa Teresa’s run to the CCS Division III softball title game. She went 3 for 4 with two doubles and two RBIs in a victory over The King’s Academy in the semifinal, and then was 3 for 3 and hit a home run against Everett Alvarez in the final.
