President Joe Biden’s visit to San Francisco for next week’s APEC summit comes as a recent statewide polling revealed that the Bay Area is the only region where most registered voters approve of his job performance.
Majorities of 2020 Biden voters polled said they approved of his handling of those issues, aside from the fighting between Israel and Hamas , while majorities of 2020 Trump voters and nonvoters said they disapproved. Thirty-nine percent of voters in the most recent Reuters/Ipsos poll said they approved of Biden’s job performance, while former President Donald Trump, the Republican frontrunner, led Biden by at least four percentage points in five of six key swing states in the latest New York Times/Siena College polls.
Amid Biden’s low approval, Democrats won a string of state races on Tuesday, gaining control of the Virginia statehouse and retaining a grasp on the governorship of Kentucky. The latter state elected Trump by more than 25 percentage points in 2020.
