The Bay Area is preparing for a significant weather event with chilly temperatures and two strong storms bringing rain and wind. Residents are advised to prepare for potential flooding and landslides.

Residents are urged to keep warm clothing and umbrellas readily available as the Bay Area braces for a combination of frigid temperatures and two successive windy, rainy storms anticipated to hit later this week. Tuesday's forecast predicts frigid temperatures and sunny skies across the region, with increasing cloud cover gradually appearing as the storms take shape on Wednesday and Thursday, according to the National Weather Service.

\'We'll experience another chilly morning tomorrow, followed by a transition to a rainy pattern on Wednesday,' stated Dalton Behringer, a meteorologist with the Weather Service. Tuesday's low temperatures are projected to range from 28 degrees to 36 degrees in most inland areas of the region, leading to freeze warnings and frost advisories across the Bay Area. Wednesday's storm is anticipated to be less intense than Thursday's, bringing between 0.5 inches and 1 inch of rain. When coupled with the chilly temperatures, this rainfall could potentially dust peaks above 2,500 feet with a light layer of snow, according to the weather service.\Following a predicted break in the rain on Wednesday, a second, more powerful storm is expected to arrive on Thursday morning, gradually diminishing on Friday and over the weekend. After the storms have passed, total rainfall amounts across the region are likely to range between 2 inches and 3 inches, with potentially up to 6 inches to 8 inches in the Santa Cruz and Santa Lucia mountains. During the peak storm periods, southwest winds are predicted to be 'crankin',' as Behringer described it. 'Along the coast and some of the higher peaks along coastal ranges could experience gusts of 40 mph to 45 mph, and potentially even stronger,' he mentioned. The forecast also anticipates some urban and small stream flooding, while saturated soils could result in landslides in localized areas.Long-term forecasts suggest a potential respite from stormy weather for a period of about a week following these storms, with the possibility of more unsettled conditions returning later in the month
