Bavuma named new Proteas Test captain: Cricket South Africa (CSA) has announced Temba Bavuma as the new Proteas Test captain.

Making the announcement on Friday afternoon, CSA said the move is part of restructuring within the leadership group of the national team as he replaces Dean Elgar.

Elgar remains available to play for the Proteas after captaining them in 15 Tests during an almost two-year reign. “We trust he will deliver on all our expectations and help carry the team forward after some excellent work by his predecessor Dean during the same period. At the same time I would like to sincerely thank Dean for all his commitment to the role over the past two years.

Momentum Multiply Titans batter Aiden Markram has been drafted back into the Test squad while his Titans teammate Heinrich Klaasen will keep wicket. “There is a good blend of youth and experience and we are confident that the new coaching staff will get the best out of them as they build towards a better future for South African cricket.”
