BATTLING ARSENAL returned to the top of the league thanks to two late strikes from...
As we enter the business end of the season, the excitement of the Premier League never ceases to disappoint.
With Thomas Partey still unavailable, Arsenal made two changes after the City loss, with Ben White coming in for Takehiro Tomiyasu, and Leandro Trossard in for Gabriel Martinelli. Meanwhile Aston Villa made five changes, perhaps the most important being the inclusion of influential Tyrone Mings who passed a late fitness test.
So 1-1 after just 15 minutes. What a start – and who could predict how many goals were left in the game? Arsenal were suffering from the effects of their midweek top of the table clash against Manchester City just 63 hours earlier, but came out for the second half far more focussed with more direct and forward passing.
With the game level at 2-2, both sides knew the importance of the next goal and each team had clear opportunities to take the lead – John McGinn didn’t test Ramsdale enough, while Saka scuffed his chance. Nketiah, who headed onto the crossbar in the first half, missed the goal having rounded the keeper, while Leon Bailey also hit the woodwork soon after.
