Innovative state plans to lower drug costs face a slow-moving federal bureaucracy
If you ask Americans whether they favor the chance to buy prescription drugs from Canada for prices cheaper than they would pay for the same drugs in the United States, the answer would be a resounding yes.
However, the federal government and states are seemingly at an impasse on making that happen, a problem that can be placed squarely at the feet of a slow-moving federal bureaucracy. Increasingly, states like Colorado, Florida, New Hampshire, New Mexico and most recently Texas, have passed state laws to permit importation from Canada, and in some instances, other countries, to lower prescription drug prices for their residents.
