Load shedding has been an almost daily occurrence over the winter months and has now reached historic levels. Battery energy storage systems are said to boost reliability and the adoption of renewable energy in South Africa. go to: AbsaSouthAfrica

JOHANNESBURG - Load shedding has been an almost daily occurrence over the winter months and has now reached historic levels. With 5 months remaining in 2022 the extent of the load shedding impact is likely only to rise from the 81 days of load shedding we have seen as of 19 July 2022 . Most worrying is the intensity of the load shedding this year. With the economy showing signs of rebounding in 2022, these historical winter load shedding levels have hurt businesses and their recovery.

In addition to load shedding, increasing tariffs by Eskom and municipalities have further improved the investment case for businesses into renewable energy generation and energy-efficient interventions. A growing number of business owners are installing renewable energy technologies to power their daily operations and to hedge against steep increases in electricity costs.
