batman's new immortal legend batman armor
Bruce Wayne is rocking a serious upgrade, as he becomes the powerful Immortal Legend Batman. The new armor is powered by literal Dark Matter, granting him superhuman abilities that he'll need as his remit expands from protecting Gotham to safeguarding the entire galaxy.
Just introduced in Immortal Legend Batman #1 - from Kyle Higgins, Mat Groom, Dan Mora, Erica D'Urso, Tamra Bonvillain, Igor Monti and Becca Carey - the suit has already gotten a major workout against the Two-Faced Man, this new continuity's version of Two-Face. 8 Immortal Legend Batman Has Superstrength Bruce Is Now Strong Enough to Break Through Solid Rock The issue begins with Batman chasing down a fugitive on the frontier planet of Avoca. The villain uses a personal laser pistol to cause a cave-in, bringing door a rock wall between him and the Dark Knight. It's a problem that would usually buy a criminal time to escape, but not from the Immortal Legend Batman. This tokusatsu-style costume taps into the 'Binding Energy' that unites the normal universe with a mysterious Shadow Dimension, enhancing the wearer to superhuman extremes. In Batman's case, that means enough strength to punch his way through rock to grab his prey. Batman later uses his enhanced strength in battle against the Two-Faced Man - a dark-matter demon pretending to be Bruce Wayne. Bruce will need this power next issue, as he faces a group of Bane-themed pirates who force their prisoners into gladiatorial combat. Meanwhile, Thomas Elliot - this world's version of Hush - is on the warpath to claim the Immortal Legend Batman suit for his own. 7 Finally Living Up to His Name, Batman Can Fly And Seemingly at Superspeed Batman has always been able to glide around Gotham, but this issue sees his shadowy cape transform into actual wings. The cape appears to be made of Dark Matter and shifts according to his needs, appearing to dodge laser fire on instinct. When the Two-Faced Man and his allies flee in a truck, Batman takes flight, chasing after them by flying at impressive speed. Batman brings the truck to a standstill by damaging its wheels, but spends a few minutes matching its speed during the pursuit while also dodging the Two-Faced Man's gunshots, suggesting he's now a one-man Batmobile. 6 Batman's New Energy Bats Explode on Contact The new Immortal Legend Batman suit can summon Dark Matter in multiple forms, including 'energy blasts' that Bruce can summon into his palms. These bats appear to have different effects based on Batman's desires, and are initially shown acting like grenades, causing huge explosions on impact. Batman also uses these explosions defensively, hurling them to block the Two-Faced Man's energy blasts. Because they're inexhaustible and summoned from his palms, the energy blasts appear to be even more effective than the mainstream's Batman's batarangs, and Bruce uses them constantly as part of his combat style, which is named "The Way of the Batman" - distinct from how this world's Robin and Nightwing. fight. 5 When They're Not Exploding, Batman's Energy Bats Have Razor-Sharp Wings Bruce's energy bats aren't always explosive, and he also uses them as bladed weapons, slicing the issue's sci-fi weaponry to pieces. In this continuity, creatures from the Dark Matter reality aren't considered living beings, and Batman feels free to destroy them, opening up vicious new attacks. The comic explains that Robin, Nightwing and Batman all have unique relationships with their Binding Force armor, and have each chosen to interact with its darkness in a different way. Batman is the only one who has chosen to fully embrace "the terrifying, relentless half of the binding energy, closest to the shadow universe." He's therefore unique among this new Bat-Family as the most offensively powerful of the group. 4 Batman Can Instantly Summon and Dismiss His Armor It Even Alters His Voice Because the Immortal Legend Batsuit is composed of energy, Bruce can summon and dismiss it in a matter of seconds. To deactivate the suit, he just taps his belt, while gesturing over his eyes and reciting, "Become the night" summons the suit, giving the Dark Knight his own Green Lantern-style motto. Interestingly, Bruce Wayne isn't the first Batman in this universe. The title was originally coined by his mysterious mentor, who only passed the title to Bruce after he crossed the galaxy training himself in rare tactics. This adds a new facet to Bruce's secret identity, since Batman was active way before it could ever have been him in the suit. 3 The Immortal Legend Batsuit Controls Batman's Spaceship In a quest across the galaxy, a normal Batwing just won't do. Immortal Legend Batman has a personal spaceship he can use to travel between planets and as a jet once he reaches them. He's able to summon the ship via his suit, hinting the ship itself may be powered by the "Binding Energy" of this universe. So far, fans don't know why Batman has left Earth, but it has his former mentor doubting the choice to hand the armor over to Bruce. Batman's mentor feels he's abandoned his purpose, leaving Robin and Nightwing to protect Earth from the denizens of the Shadow Dimension. The issue ends with Bruce's mysterious mentor addressing his son, Thomas Elliot, and saying that if Tommy can claim the armor from Bruce, he can take his place as the new Immortal Legend Batman. 2 The Immortal Legend Batsuit Is Incredibly Durable And It Seems Like Bruce Can Use Energy Bats as Shields While battling the Two-Faced Man, Batman summons energy bats to act as shields, blocking the shadow energy. He also absorbs several major hits with no signs of injury, including being hit by a truck. It's yet to be seen just how durable Batman's new suit is, and it's clear he's still blocking shots whenever he can, however he appears to have superhuman levels of resilience. Batman has another, weirder form of durability to draw on in this continuity. The original Immortal Legends Batman, Nightwing and Robin were initially mistaken for supernatural beings, with the general public coming to believe they were literally immortal. With Stephanie Brown , Harper Row and Batman's mysterious mentor passing their armor and identities down to Tim Drake, Dick Grayson and Bruce, the trio have retained the illusion of being immortal. It's a useful reputation for Batman to leverage, but the idea that he can't be harmed could also be turned against him, since no-one is likely to risk themselves to 'save' someone who can't die. 1 Batman Unlocks a Powerful 'Bat Press' Attack The issue's most unique power comes at the end, when Batman performs a Super Sentai-style special attack against the Two-Faced Man. Leaping into the air, Batman bellows "Bat Press" and flies towards his enemy, delivering a kick empowered by focused binding energy. It's an incredibly powerful blow that imbues his target with energy, causing them to explode as Batman glides free. So far, it's unclear whether the Bat Press is a unique move, or if Immortal Legend Batman has a range of combat moves he can empower with Binding Energy. However, given the explosive results, it's likely to be something Batman can only use against Shadow Dimension creatures, since the effects would doubtlessly kill a regular human. Those are the eight abilities fans have seen so far from the Immortal Legend Batman armor, but with new versions of Bane, Poison Ivy and the Riddler debuting in upcoming issues, it's guaranteed we'll soon see this armor pushed to its absolute limits, revealing any more tricks up Bruce's sleeve.
