As Americans installed a new president Tuesday, two Texas Hill Country cities voted to institute change at the local level.

According to unofficial election results, Lockhart 's Proposition A and Bastrop 's Proposition M both received voter approval in a grassroots move to decriminalize low-level marijuana offenses and deem them a low priority for local authorities.

About 70% of voters moved to approve the proposition. Lockhart and Bastrop are just the latest Texas cities to have approved ordinances to decriminalize low-level marijuana offenses, following San Marcos, Austin, Elgin, Killeen and Denton. While city residents are moving toward change at the local level, state officials have pushed back. In January, Attorney General Ken Paxton announced that he filed a lawsuit against those municipalities' marijuana decriminalization ordinances.
