The new FOX medical drama 'Doc' follows the story of Dr. Amy Larsen, a brilliant doctor who regains consciousness after a car accident with no memory of the past decade. Inspired by the real-life experiences of Italian doctor Pierdante Piccioni, who also suffered from amnesia after a similar accident, the show delves into the emotional and psychological challenges of losing a decade of memories and the journey of rediscovering oneself.
What would it mean to lose a decade of your memories and be disconnected from the present? A new FOX medical drama , 'Doc,' explores these profound questions. The series, which quickly became FOX's most-watched debut in three years, centers on Dr. Amy Larsen, a brilliant physician who gets a second chance at life after a devastating car accident wipes out a decade of her memories.
'You've not only missed out on what's happened in the world,' says Molly Parker, who portrays Larsen, 'you've missed out on who you've become.' It's a scenario that pushes the boundaries of reality. But viewers may be surprised to learn that 'Doc' draws inspiration from the real-life experiences of Italian doctor Pierdante Piccioni. Piccioni endured a similar life-altering accident, losing 12 years of memories completely. As the head of an emergency department at a major Italian hospital, he found himself suddenly thrust into the role of a patient, unable to recognize his own identity or his children, who had grown significantly in his absence. 'I didn't recognize them. That was very, very terrible. I cried a lot,' he shared.Driven by an unwavering determination to reclaim his life and career, Piccioni meticulously reviewed 65,000 emails he had sent and received, realizing he had become emotionally detached and far removed from the person he once aspired to be. 'To watch the story inspired by my story was very, very emotional,' Piccioni said. 'It was like to open my scars again.' Despite the pain, he describes the FOX series as 'a story of hope,' acknowledging how the incident profoundly transformed him. 'I think that God gave me a second chance. I became more empathetic,' he shared. 'Before I was more like a machine; now I’m more like a person.' You can watch all-new episodes of 'Doc,' every Tuesday on FOX
