Barry Ferguson thinks that Rangers can still salvage something from this season if they back the manager

Barry Ferguson insists that he would be happy to take either Philippe Clement or Kevin Muscat as the new Rangers boss - with strong CVs being handy to turn their poor form.

Both have strong CVs and credentials that make them worthy of consideration for the top job at Ibrox. Now it’s time for the board to pick their man - and for the rest of the club to fall in line and get right behind the new boss. Steven Davis was absolutely right when he said after last week’s sickener in Cyprus that a show of unity was required down Edmiston Drive.

"I was right behind Mick, just as I was with Gio van Bronckhorst and Steven Gerrard before him and I hope the fans will be the same with Kev or Philippe. Whoever it is pulling on that club blazer, I’m desperate for them to do well. The club needs stability right now. There’s been too many changes in the dugout these past few years. If you include caretakers, we’re now on to eight bosses in the last seven years - that’s not the Rangers I grew up supporting.

"Obviously, of the two contenders, I know Muscy better having played alongside him during his 12-month stay in Glasgow. I think there’s a false impression about Kev floating around. "But I don’t agree with the hard-man labels he gets hit with. For me, he was just a fully committed footballer. He wasn’t the mad man folk make him out to be, someone who’d jab you on the spot if you looked at him the wrong way. Of course, sometimes he might have went over the top a bit, even on the training pitch. But I had no problem with that and neither did any of the guys I played with.
