Police are telling shoppers to stay away from a Walmart along Route 38 in Lumberton Township, New Jersey, on Tuesday morning as a barricade situation was taking place in the parking lot. In a statement posted online at about 5:25 a.m. on Tuesday, the Lumberton Township Police Department alerted residents to"stay free" from the area of a Walmart, located along the 1700 block of Route 38, as a barricade situation was underway. Contacted Tuesday morning, officials said, the situation had been ongoing since about 11:02 p.m. on Monday night after a man -- who police did not immediately provide further identifying information on -- barricaded themselves inside a vehicle in the parking lot of the store.
Officials did not immediately say if this person was armed with a weapon or not. They also did not immediately detail what may have led to the incident. In an update at about 7:40 a.m. on Tuesday morning, officials said they were still working to address this situation and there was no known threat to the public. NBC10 is working to learn more.
