Barley & Board, the popular restaurant and bar on Denton's historic town square, has announced it will close after nearly 10 years.fame were both involved in opening the restaurant, along with John Pearson, who is a partner in Radical Hospitality Group, owner of LSA Burger Co., also on the square. Barley & Board calls itself Denton's first gastropub, serving local craft beers and a chef-driven menu.
The area around the downtown square has been busy recently with crowded restaurants, shops and cafes. Union Bear opened this summer just a half mile away, with a similar brasserie-like setting backed by a chef-driven menu. A post onsays the chef from Barley & Board is now at Union Bear. Danny Bays, who is listed as the chef at Union Bear, was a chef at Barley & Board.
A little digging shows that Union Bear has brought in a nice $100,000 in liquor sales each month since opening in July. Barley & Board's, according to TABS, have averaged about $69,000 a month for the past 12 months, hitting $71,000 in October. So, one didn't pull from the other, which might be a stretch anyway considering the number of restaurants and bars within a quarter mile of the square.Get More Coverage Like This.
