With Lionel Messi entering the final 12 months of his current deal at Paris Saint-Germain, Barcelona’s president has been a remarkable admission regarding the Argentine forward’s future.Prior to the commencement of the 2021/22 season, the world was shocked when it found out that a then-out-of-contract Messi would not be signed a new contract at Barcelona.
The newly elected president of the Blaugrana, Joan Laporta, at the time insisted that it would not be financially viable for the club to extend the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner's contract due to the economic constraints the Catalan giants were under. As result, Messi left the club he had spent 21 years at to join Paris Saint-Germain. Now Laporta seems to be determined to see the Argentine return to Barca to play out the remaining years of his career. "I feel indebted to Leo Messi. I’d love the end of his career to be at Barcelona with a standing ovation in every stadium. I think we can make it happen," Laporta told reporters, as per Spanish reporter Toni Juanmartí.
