Why The Barbie Movie Is Being Banned Before the Middle Eastern countries, the Barbie movie was banned in Vietnam for reasons unrelated to its perceived sexuality or LGBTQ+ references. The film was first banned in the country because of one shot, which only appears for a split second, that features a map of the real world with what is known as the "nine-dash line.
Though it doesn't feature any overt sexuality or LGBTQ+ references, the Barbie movie being banned in Kuwait and Lebanon isn't a surprise. The countries have some of the strictest censors in the Middle East, with Talk to Me being banned in Kuwait for the mere inclusion of a trans actor. Similarly, the Barbie cast includes multiple LGBTQ+ members, including Kate McKinnon, Hari Nef, Alexandra Shipp, and Scott Evans.
