Baptist Medical Center South in Montgomery, Alabama, is expanding its emergency department to improve patient care and access to services.
Baptist Medical Center South in Montgomery, Alabama , will undergo a major expansion of its emergency department after receiving approval from the Alabama Certificate of Need Review Board. The \$14 million project, slated for completion in the coming year, will increase the hospital's footprint by over 11,000 square feet. Construction is set to begin on January 16, 2025.
Visitors are advised of upcoming changes, including the relocation of public entrance doors to the emergency department and the closure of the service road in front of the hospital. Alternate routes and clear signage will be provided. The front emergency department parking area and surrounding entrances will also be inaccessible. Baptist officials have designated parking spaces behind the UAB Medicine Multispecialty Clinic building with an entrance located near the ambulance bays. A free shuttle service will be available for patients. An expanded welcome vestibule with security measures, including a metal detector and badge pass registration, will be implemented. After registration, a guest coordinator will guide patients. The expansion aims to enhance emergency services across the 17 counties served by Baptist in central Alabama, improve access, and reduce emergency department holds.
