NRL: Dale Finucance copped a two-game ban for this contact with Stephen Crichton in 2022, while Taylan May has escaped any charge after his clash with Reece Walsh in round three.
Sharks enforcer Dale Finucane was suspended for a 2022 head clash with Stephen Crichton which he said “set a precedent for our game moving forward”.
Justice Geoffrey Bellow, speaking after Finucane was handed a reduced suspension, explained Crichton’s injury did have an influence on his ban. Broncos star Reece Walsh was rubbed out of Thursday night’s grand final rematch after just five minutes due a head clash with Taylan May that left him with a facial fracture.
Speaking following his judicial hearing in 2022, Finucane said: “I am obviously extremely disappointed with the outcome, given that it was an accidental offence”. Finucane also highlighted the brutal nature of the NRL, foreseeing that tackles, like that of May on Walsh, would earn suspensions in the future.
