KOTA KINABALU: Water woes faced by households around Bandar Sri Indah in Tawau are expected to ease with the completion of a water treatment plant there.
Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Christina Liew said with the newly completed infrastructure of the Bandar Sri Indah Water Treatment Plant by Hap Seng Company, residents should be able to get uninterrupted water supply in the event of a drought.
Liew, who is also Tawau MP, said this after a site visit to the plant on Saturday , which involved two components, namely a raw water intake area and two reservoirs for water storage. "I hope the perennial water woes facing the people of Bandar Sri Indah will be over soon," she said in a statement. The project, which started in September last year, is set to benefit more than 3,000 homes.
Project chief engineer Pang Ket Soon when conducting a briefing during the site inspection, said the plant has a capacity of supplying 1 million litres of treated water per day to the two reservoirs with a storage capacity of 1.5 million litres and 4.5 million litres, respectively. Liew was also accompanied by the Tawau parliamentary constituency chief liaison officer Fung Thin Yein during the work visit.
