The band played off-site in San Diego during the American Diabetes Association meeting in June at a private celebration of the ADA 2023 Banting Medal for Scientific Achievement, which this year, was awarded to Tschӧp. Yeo has led another band, called Casa del Funk, since the late 1990s, when he was a postdoctoral student at Cambridge. Tschӧp knew about that, so he called Yeo and asked if he'd like to put together a band for the Association's celebration. They ended up playing at the Berlin Concert House:"It's like Carnegie Hall," says Yeo — in front of 5000 German diabetologists.

When they're not on stage, they can all be found in the lab, and it was work in the latter that earned Tschöp the prestigious Banting award.
