Netflix will soon have some of HBO's most quintessential titles available to stream as part of a game-changing deal. It had been reported on June 20 that Warner Bros. Discovery, which owns HBO, was considering licensing some of the channel's notable shows to Netflix. The deal, reportedly the result of financial considerations, would be non-exclusive which would mean the shows would still be available on Max.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Insecure is now available to stream on Netflix, as Variety reports that other HBO dramas will soon follow. The list includes Band of Brothers, The Pacific, Six Feet Under, and Ballers. Another title is True Blood, which is currently also streaming on Hulu, and will be available to Netflix subscribers outside the U.S.
How Streaming On Netflix Could Help HBO Shows Although somewhat diluted by competing streaming platforms, Netflix has an undeniable global reach. A glance at Nielsen's streaming chart, which has a section devoted to licensed programs, shows that library titles enjoy immense popularity on Netflix. In 2022, several of the most watched shows on Netflix were comedies and dramas that originally aired elsewhere.
The same is true of current series like ABC's Grey's Anatomy and the CW sports drama All American, both of which are big hits thanks to being licensed by Netflix. If the trend continues for Insecure or Six Feet Under, there could be a desire for HBO to build on that buzz by developing a reboot or a special one-off episode. Netflix could be especially beneficial to Ballers, Dwayne Johnson's series which is especially friendly to binging and casual viewership.
