Cameron Bancroft has continued his red-hot start to the Sheffield Shield season with another century as he gave Western Australia the upper hand at the Adelaide Oval.

The Warriors opener made a patient 100 from 221 balls as he combined with Aaron Hardie to build a formidable 354-run lead at stumps on day three of the clash against South Australia.

With David Warner’s impending Test retirement set to create a top order vacancy at the end of the summer, Bancroft has mounted the strongest bid of the contenders, but fellow former Test opener Matt Renshaw made an important 57 in Hobart as Queensland reached 6-202 at stumps with a lead of 344 runs heading into the final day.

Neser flew home to Brisbane after the first day of the clash in Hobart but said on Saturday “things were more positive” and he was ready to return to the game. Jason Sangha provided the only resistance with an unbeaten 53, with the 24-year-old to resume alongside Nathan Lyon on Sunday.
