On top of Rush Week essentials, the average cost of semester fees for new members is $4,100. Meals and chapter/facility fees total about $3,500 a semester for active members who don’t live in-house, according to the UA Panhellenic Association.
“Get off your ass. You have work to do,” Vetrini, a former marketing manager, advised companies in a recent post, suggesting that they should gear their products toward older sorority members instead of new recruits. “You need to send product right now to the Old Row sororities in Tuscaloosa.” University officials said no changes have been made this year to social media policies, but pointed to a 2020made by the National Panhellenic Conference, called “Promotion of the Sorority Experience.” The change required local associations to remove “all excessive restrictions on communication with potential new members.”
The policy states that active members shouldn’t single out individual chapters, promise membership, or make potential new members feel “uncomfortable or overwhelmed” by excluding them from social media posts or overloading them with direct messages.
