Big developments put extra pressure on SA’s ailing water systems.
JSE-listed Balwin Properties, which develops large-scale residential estates in South Africa, is facing a backlash from some of its Gauteng residents due to frequent water outages and low water pressure plaguing the estates where they own or rent.
Even though the estate management communicates the occurrence of outages effectively, the situation affects her from an investment perspective as she rents out her apartment for an income. “I’ve had to store plenty of water for basic needs, which adds an extra layer of complexity to my daily routine.”“I’ve given notice because of this even though it’s a great place to live; these water and electricity outages make it impossible to enjoy living here.”
“Balwin has always and continues to prioritise the well-being and comfort of residents by proactively investing in bulk water and electricity infrastructure at all its developments. These investments are often to the benefit of the larger community.”
