The Ballard Bridge Paving and Safety Project starting Monday will cause closures and increase travel time for drivers.
The Seattle Department of Transportation said construction would begin July 8 on 15th Avenue W/NW and the Ballard Bridge . The project is aimed at providing safety and mobility upgrades to maintain the streets and improve transit reliability.
SDOT said the work they will be doing on Ballard Bridge will be “maintenance and preservation work to keep this 107-year-old bridge safe and strong.” On the east side of 15th Avenue NW at NW 57th Street and NW 56th Street, they will pave the street, upgrade the ADA-accessible ramps, repair parts of the sidewalk and rebuild corners. Construction on the bridge will be done Mondays through Thursdays from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. The maintenance on 15th Avenue NW will be done Mondays through Fridays from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. SDOT said that during construction they will have to temporarily close traffic lanes, close one side of the walking path, and move a couple of bus stops. The Ballard Bridge Paving and Safety Project is funded by the voter-approved Levy to Move Seattle, according to SDOT. Officials said that to prepare for construction, drivers should plan to use alternate routes or plan additional travel time.
