The Baldwin County Commission awarded a contract for the construction of a new district attorney's office in Bay Minette. The new building will allow for better communication and teamwork within the office and accommodate future growth. District Attorney Bob Wilters expressed excitement about the project, stating it has been a long-needed upgrade for a rapidly growing county.
The Baldwin County Commission awarded a contract today for the construction of a new district attorney ’s office in Bay Minette ."This will be the first time since probably the early ‘80s, that the district attorney 's office will have everybody in one place at one time under one roof,” said Baldwin County District Attorney Bob Wilters.
Wilters says a new building for the Baldwin County District Attorney's Office will make communication within the office easier and will allow for more teamwork. He says the new office is being built for growth. “It is an exciting time for our office, an exciting time for Bay Minette and for the county. This is something that has been needed for a long period of time. Geez, it is tough when you are growing as fast as we are growing, and you got to kind of play catch up,” he said. Wilters says the new office will be a 2-story building with the first floor finished and the second floor partially finished. The lowest bid came in at $7.59 million. “It actually cost more originally than we had anticipated. Then, whenever they gave us the revised amount, and then whenever it came back under the revised amount, that is always good. Things cost way more than I like to even admit they do, but it just is what it is,” said Baldwin County Commissioner Billie Jo Underwood.“We're getting two additional judges this January in about two more weeks, and then we're getting a third additional judge in January '27, so there is no more room in the courthouse unless we vacate. If we vacate, then they should have enough room in the courthouse to be able to house our additional judges and a new courtroom,” said Wilters.
