After fleeing the country last year, two women accused in the murder of Marisela Botello Valadez had their bond set at $4 million.
PUBLISHED 1:32 PM CDT Jun. 06, 2022DALLAS — On Wednesday, State District Judge Amber Givens set the bond for Nina Tamar Marano and Lisa Jo Dykes.
Judge Givens set the bond high after the women cut off their GPS monitors, allowing them to flee to Cambodia. With the help of the Federal Bureau of Investigation and law enforcement in Cambodia, both women were found in February and extradited to Dallas last month. Originally, Marano and Dykes were arrested in Orange County, Florida, in March of last year. They bonded out of custody in May on a $500,000 bail.that his client’s decision to flee was not indicative of guilt for the crime.
Spectrum News 1 previously reported that Valadez, who was last seen October 5, had traveled to Dallas from Seattle to visit a friend on October 2. During an investigation, police learned that she went back to her friend’s residence and to businesses in Deep Ellum. Surveillance footage showed her leaving Select Start, a bar in the 2800 block of Elm Street, with a man believed to be Beltran.
According to the arrest affidavit, cellphone records placed Valadez, Beltran, Marano, and Dykes at a Mesquite home shared by Beltran and Dykes on the day of her disappearance. It said that phone records showed that Dykes and Marano left the home the same day, and headed to a wooded area near Hutchins, which is close to multiple bodies of water, and then returned to the home.
