The hybrid ceremony, filmed at London’s Television Centre and hosted by Richard Ayoade, kept in line with COVID-19 protocols by allowing a number of nominees from the main performance categories attend, with others taking part digitally. In his opening speech, BAFTA chair Krishnendu Majumdar — who led a major review last year aimed at addressing the lack of diversity at the British Academy — said that this year’s TV nominees represented a “step in the right direction for representation on screen,” but admitted there was still more to be achieved.
