Bar owners and staff who work near Fourth Avenue in downtown Anchorage are reacting to a shooting incident outside the Gaslight Lounge that left one man dead, and three other injured.
“I’ve been here for 44 years … We haven’t had any shootings,” Darwin Biwer, owner of Darwin’s Theory, said Tuesday.Biwer added that violent crime has contributed to a negative image of the downtown area.
Off camera, some bar staff told Alaska’s News Source they believed the Gaslight should be shut down, citing frequent violence and “There’s a small group of criminals that are victimizing my clientele and my staff and my business,” Pattee explained. “In this particular instance ... all of us feel like we’re as much of a victim as my two guys that got shot.”
