Bad Bunny is bringing his music back home with a historic residency in Puerto Rico, following the release of his deeply personal album 'Debí Tirar Más Fotos'.
Bad Bunny surprised fans on Monday with the announcement of his first-ever residency in his native Puerto Rico this summer, following the release of his sixth studio album, ' Debí Tirar Más Fotos ,' which he describes as his 'most Puerto Rican' album to date. The singer took to Instagram to share a video stating that while he cherishes the experiences his music has afforded him globally, 'for now, I am in Puerto Rico .
I am at home and I am having a good time and if I am honest, I do not want to leave here.' His Puerto Rico residency, titled 'No me quiero ir de aquí,' translates to 'I do not want to leave here.' The name also draws inspiration from a famous protest lyric in his hit song 'El Apagón' (The Blackout) from his fourth studio album, 'Un Verano Sin Ti' (A Summer Without You). Bad Bunny is scheduled to perform 21 shows at the Coliseo de Puerto Rico José Miguel Agrelot from July 11 to August 24. The venue, known affectionately as 'El Choli' by Puerto Ricans, is the island's largest indoor entertainment arena, boasting a capacity of over 18,000 people. Notably, this marks the first formal residency ever staged at 'El Choli.' According to the residency's website, tickets for the initial nine shows are exclusively available to Puerto Rican residents for in-person purchase starting on Wednesday. Tickets for the remaining shows will be available for online pre-sale starting on Tuesday. Released on January 5th, the album title 'Debí Tirar Más Fotos' translates to 'I should have taken more photos.' It debuted at No. 1 on Billboard's top streaming albums chart and at No. 2 on the Billboard 200, securing Bad Bunny's seventh top 10-charting LP. From the album cover featuring two white plastic chairs in front of a plantain tree to the fusion of traditional and modern folkloric rhythms, it is evident that Bad Bunny's primary inspiration for his new album stems from his deep connection to his homeland, Puerto Rico. It blends traditional rhythms like salsa, plena, and bomba with newer genres such as reggaeton and dembow. Most of the lyrics delve into Puerto Rico's political realities and cultural heritage. In various interviews with local media outlets in Puerto Rico, Bad Bunny has expressed his hope that the music and lyrics of his new album will spark conversations between relatives across different generations. 'One of my purposes with this project was to connect and unify families, different generations,' Bad Bunny shared on Telemundo Puerto Rico's 'Alexandra A Las 12' show last week.
