KOTA KINABALU: Reappointed Sabah Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Christina Liew did not waste any time getting on with work soon after being sworn in to the state Cabinet on Wednesday (Jan 11) morning.
Steering clear of any politically-related statements, the state Pakatan Harapan chief said she had already set appointments with her assistant minister, permanent secretary and other senior ministry officials.Liew anticipates 2023 to be a good year as the post-pandemic tourism market is brimming with potential.
"I look forward to a busy, exciting and challenging year for the tourism industry in Sabah,” she told reporters after her swearing-in ceremony at Istana Negeri here.According to Liew, Sabah recorded some 4.3 million tourists – more than half of them from China – during her previous tenure at the ministry from 2018-2020.
"But shortly after that, there was a change of government, followed by the pandemic for a couple of years, so the market was very quiet," she added. Liew was confident the tourism sector would gather momentum quickly as the world shrugs off the pandemic.
